Nipah leaves are abundantly found in swamps within the water areas of Banyuasin Regency in South Sumatra.

From these nipah leaves, the artisans produce dozens of woven products.

Nipah leaves are used to make cigarette wrappers and ketupat (rice cakes wrapped in leaves), while nipah leaf midribs are used to make plates, baskets, tissue boxes, fruit baskets, and various other woven products.

So, when we visit this Weaving Tourism Village, we can directly witness the process of making these products.

Starting from separating the nipah leaves from the midribs, to the weaving process, and until the products are ready to be marketed.

Currently, the marketing of products from the Weaving Tourism Village is limited to the South Sumatra region.

Mukhtiar Hijrun, the head of Seberang Ulu I District in Palembang, plans to create a dedicated gallery for products from the Weaving Village in the area. This way, the woven products from the Weaving Tourism Village can also be considered as unique souvenirs of Palembang.

Mukhtiar Hijrun hopes that the people, especially those in Palembang, will buy and use the products from the Weaving Tourism Village, thus improving the economic situation of the weaving artisans.
